Re: Post in the right section. PLEASE! Price drops not for complaints!!!

Just got a price drop email, first time in a while, but unfortunately Carnival's website doesn't show the drop.  That's a sham because it was like a 40% drop!  Maybe it will still happen? Doubtful, but I can dream, right?

I've seen the same in the past on a couple of cruise lines.

My suspicion, definitely not verified, is that the line has to book some group where they've negotiated a discounted price. So someone drops the price at something like 3:00AM, books everyone in the group, and then bumps the price back to where it was.

Can anyone confirm the suspicion - or maybe there is an alternate explanation?

Thats a really wild imagination you have there. I'd say it is EXTREMELY unlikely. They can have plenty of different rates available without the need to change what is showing up on the website. Doubt me? Check a trave agent like Crucon, which now shows the different rate plans available when booking (at least they do for Royal and Holland, have not checked the others). Plus CF would have to be looking at EXACTLY the same time that they opened this secret window for people to book.

I think the more likely excuse is that Cruisefish is broken and did something wrong (not entirely unreasonable given the current state of CF). Or it's also possible that the website DID put up an incorrect price briefly while switching between promotions but then corrected it quickly.

You are probably correct - just a possibility that occured to me, but it sounds like you know a lot more!
