This has always been of interest to me.  It seems clients get good perks and many know how to get the perks and savings, etc.  Most work through agents and trust them for the service and the pricing.   I think some clients use certain agents that serve different cruise lines as their specialty.   But this is all knowledge seasoned cruisers have obtained over the years and it would be great to receive some of that good knowledge.

Travel agencies get commissions from the cruise lines.  Some will pass part of the commission back to you in the form of OBC.  They are more likely to pass it back to you if you use them several times a year, and initially you have to ask.

A good place to start without having to ask is Costco.  Their travel department will automatically give members some OBC with every cruise.  The more expensive the ticket, the higher the amound of OBC.

If you're cruising more than once a year and not getting some OBC back from your travel agency, you ae leaving money on the table.

We use CruCon. We have received as little as $50 obc and as much as $700. Sometimes it's a mix of obc, dinner in specialty restuarants and/or spa treatments. Regardless of which agency you use, come back here and set alerts for your sailing to watch for price drops (prior to final payment). If you are lucky enough to get a reduction in price call your TA and ask for that amount to be added as obc.
