Re: Best Agency based on PRICE only

Actually I hope nobody ever pays brochure rates. Normally brochure rates are near double what you should pay. Again everyone has the same price and offer as everyone else. I just read an article the other day saying there is a couple search engines that aren't grabbing the lowest fare available. It's a computer glitch. They are working on it. Luckily our search engine isn't giving us problems.

If you like someone call them and tell them they are higher and I assure you they will log directly into the cruise lines agent portal and quote you the exact same fare as anywhere else. Shared commissions aside. Then you make the decision that is best for you. Most consultants/agents want to keep your business. They may or may not be able to match what someone else offered. Just know that the cheapest price you find is available everywhere. Again not talking about shared commissions.

So why even say this when it's not true? How good an agent can you be if you are not aware of group space available by agencies until they give any unsold cabins back to the cruise line? Please don't mislead customers. Prices vary by 100's of dollars.

Actually tcro I did mention group space in a previous post in this thread. I mistakenly didn't repeat it again. You are correct. Group rates can sometimes be cheaper, but not always. Many times group rates are higher than a current promotion.

I am saying to shop around and do what is best for you. No need for insults.

Other than group rates I invite you to find a different price for the exact same cruise, room and rate code. Also not including commission sharing which could be in the form of wine or towels and the like paid for by the agent. The lines are coming together through CLIA to somewhat standardize the industry.

Re: Best Agency based on PRICE only

Just to show what I mean by brochure rates I looked up a random cruise. I will give the price for 2 categories. One is brochure at $3561.30. The other is an Early booking rate for $1381.30. Both are for 2 occupants. This is the exact room number on the exact ship. Obviously anyone selling that brochure rate is totally screwing their customers and I would never be caught doing it but there are exactly 10 different rate codes for this single cruise. Having said that I repeat everyone selling this cruise gets each rate code for the exact same price. Can they add to it? Yes they can. This is also a practice that we do not participate in. And again this is today's rate and is not considering groups or commission sharing.

You don't give buyers enough credit. Everyone checks cruise line prices BEFORE they call you so none of that matters if you are not willing to offer OBC. Without it you can never have the lowest price and will never get the business of savy shoppers.

Please don't get me wrong. I want you to look around. The more informed you are when you call me the easier it makes it for me. You know where you want to go and when and even what you are willing to pay. I encourage my friends to shop around and then give me a chance to help them. I don't get upset if my close friends accept a $100 spa credit from someone else on a cruise that only pays $35 in commission. Not that I don't want to make every dollar I can I want them to do what is best for them.

I am on your side tc don't worry. I know you have a T/A already and I am not trying to steal you away from them by saying anything I have said. Nor am I trying to encourage you to pay more for anything. I am just trying to explain why some people run their business's the way they do. Some people just refuse to give breaks and thats ok there are plenty of people out there willing to pay extra and if thats what they want to do I am ok with that also.

You had me up until that part about the check after commission. And, no, I don't have only one T/A. I use several and I even sometimes book direct with the cruise lines. If it's an expensive cruise I will use cruisecompete. For me it is all about the lowest price. When I do use a T/A I know the cruise and the cabin I would like to get.

It sounds like agree more than we disagree.

Carnivals new policy is somewhat outlined in this article. Actually if we want to stay in compliance we are going to have to change the way we do business also. According to this article there is to be no cash equivelant discounting at all.

    http://www.travelweekly.co.uk/Articles/2012/07/09/41020/carnival+cruise+lines+introduces+anti-rebating+policy+in+us.html

I was wrong on them letting you rebate the 5 % as cash. Now I am going to have to go check all the lines we have sold to make sure we aren't in violation of their policies.

It looks like legal will be wine from Carnival and logo items like beach towels hats and such from Carnival themselves. Better than nothing.

Re: Best Agency based on PRICE only

I book directly with the cruise line then go looking and I have never found a price that is lower. I have cruised 7 cruises. But if the line lowers the price I call and get it lowered. I check a lot. I look at all of the sites listed and then some so I just don't get how people get a cheaper price. I do notice that sites will show a listed price and then their price but it is the same as the cruise line price. Last cruise I went on a 7 day to Bermuda with my family. I did all the arrangements. The rooms at three different rates, Twice I got the rates lowered for my parents balcony and my sister's inside rooms but never could for mine, But did get a cheap up grade to a balcony. I hate being on a cruise and having people tell me how much cheaper they got theirs. Once I am on the ship don't tell me!!!

Re: Best Agency based on PRICE only

Read the thread and learn instead of saying you just don't get it.

With some lines the price can not be less than advertised by the cruise line (unless you are booking with an agency that holds group space) but it can be OBC and other freebies which lower your total cruise price.

If you enjoy picking your own cabin, booking with the line, etc. you can still do that -- just transfer your booking to a good TA when you have it where you want it for the OBC.

When your total cruise price is lower you can cruise more often!
